The Division of Allergy and Immunology is staffed by two physicians, Stanley Fine, M.D., director, and David Menchell, M.D., both of whom are board certified in the subspecialty. Members of the Department of Medicine housestaff participate in the treatment of allergy patients in the allergy clinic and are also involved in the educational activities of the division.

There are several areas in which the division members have particular expertise. Two of the most notable are:

• The evaluation of adverse drug reactions, with a focus on penicillin allergy. With the guidance of Drs. Fine and Menchell, New York Hospital Queens physicians have been able to administer penicillin when necessary to many patients who were said to be allergic to penicillin.
  
• The evaluation and treatment of allergy-induced asthma.

Allergy-Immunology physicians frequently consult with primary care physicians in the management of hospitalized patients who have problems within the scope of the field.
