American Academy of Pediatrics Elects NYHQ Pediatrician as Treasurer

Flushing, NY – New York Hospital Queens pediatrician Joseph Abularrage, M.D., F.A.A.P., chairman, department of pediatrics, was recently elected as treasurer to the American Academy of Pediatrics, New York Chapter 2 division, serving Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), New York Chapter 2 division is a non-profit organization that is tasked with improving the health and welfare of all infants, children, adolescents and young adults in the State of New York. As treasurer, Dr. Abularrage will be responsible for the care and custody of all funds and securities of the 1,500-member chapter.

“This is a great responsibility and an excellent opportunity both for myself and for New York Hospital Queens. As treasurer of the American Academy of Pediatrics, New York Chapter 2, I can support policy and health care awareness as it pertains to overall pediatric care throughout Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau and Suffolk counties,” Dr. Abularrage said.

Dr. Abularrage has chaired the New York Hospital Queens department of pediatrics since 1992. He is the founder of “Fit Kids” at the hospital, a program designed to help children overcome weight issues and low self-esteem through proper diet and exercise. He also implemented the hospital’s Pediatric Asthma “Mobile Unit.”

Dr. Abularrage graduated from Fordham University before earning his M.D. at New York University’s School of Medicine. He obtained his Masters in Public Health, and Masters of Philosophy from Columbia University. He has teaching experience at New York Hospital Queens, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York University, Columbia, Beekman Downtown Hospital.

The New York Chapter of the AAP was established in 1949 as an endorsed Chapter Affiliate of the national organization. The AAP is a national organization composed of over 55,000 pediatricians.
