Roux-en-y gastric bypass has produced more dramatic and predicatable weight loss results than other operations. Based upon a patient's pre-operative statistics our doctors can actually calculate a goal weight for the individual.

Example:

Female: Height= 5' 4", Weight= 300 lbs.

Adjusted Weight = (Actual Weight - Ideal) X 0.25

Adjusted Weight = (300 - 145) X 0.25 = 38.75 lbs.

Expected Weight = Ideal Weight + Adjusted Weight

Expected Weight = 145 + 38.75 = 183.75 lbs.

In order for the above patient to meet this goal she would need to lose just over 116 pounds. In practice, surgery will reliably lead to the loss of about 80% of this, or 93 lbs.

More than 20% of the weight loss is often seen in the first month after surgery, and nearly 60% by 6 months. For most patients, each 3 month interval thereafter sees another 7 to 10% loss until weight stabilizes between 16 and 18 months.
