In order to provide state-of-the-art bariatric surgical care, an institution must assemble and coordinate a team of specialists from a variety of disciplines. Assisting the bariatric surgeon in evaluation and preparation of the patient are the nutrition specialist, the psychiatric social worker and various medical specialists. Treatments are rendered by the surgeon and his operating room team, comprised of nurses, technologists and anesthesiologists, all of whom have been selected for their special interest in, and experience with, the bariatric patient.

The New York Hospital Queens is also able to provide the sophisticated support systems needed by patients at particularly high risk. For such individuals, the superb staff of our Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) stands ready to provide the moment-by-moment, post-op care that can sometimes be critical to success.
