Blood is the fluid of life, and much of what we have come to take for granted in modern medicine would be impossible without blood donation. The Blood Donor Center at New York Hospital Queens can take one collection and draw from it components and materials that will benefit a number of different individuals in need. The unit of whole blood that you so generously give will supply oxygen-carrying red cells to an anemic cancer patient, essential clotting factors to a hemophiliac and immunity-conferring proteins to a patient fighting severe infection.
The Blood Donor Center at New York Hospital Queens is dedicated to the needs of those New Yorkers who tomorrow may require this type of medical support; perhaps one of your neighbors, or even your family member. The center reaches out to the greater New York community, providing education, organizing donation drives and making new friends for the cause of blood donation. The center can only succeed in its mission through effective partnership with the community members who are willing to donate their time and the great gift of blood. And while the center staff works diligently to be effective stewards of the blood supply, we never lose sight of the fact that it is the individual donor who is truly... "giving life."
