Flushing, NY, April 20, 2009 - New York Hospital Queens is looking for artists with a talent for capturing the history, vibrancy and diversity of Queens to help bring this unique aesthetic to its new 7-story expansion set to open early 2010.
The hospital is seeking various forms of art, including but not limited to, original canvas art, photography, poster art, sculpture and relief art. The artwork will be displayed throughout the new West Wing building. Following the completion of these installations, New York Hospital Queens expects to expand the artwork program throughout its existing campus.
“The idea here is to make people feel at home from the moment they first walk through our doors, throughout the patient care process and until they leave,” said John Ricotta, assistant director of the Major Modernization Project. “Our neighbors in the community are our primary patients, so who better to contribute to the vision of the hospital than the people who live here?”
Artists are asked to submit a proposal for consideration by the New York Hospital Queens committee that includes the following information:

The Major Modernization Program of New York Hospital Queens is a $200 million expansion project that will include 80 additional much-needed beds for a total of 520 beds hospital-wide, new ambulatory surgery facilities, interventional procedure rooms, a new main lobby and numerous other enhancements that will make the hospital more advanced and more convenient for all. The new wing will open its floors in phases.
New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Health Care System and an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
