Chinese Breast Cancer Support Group

The “Pink Ribbon Club” is a Chinese-language breast cancer support group, hosted by NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens Flushing Comprehensive Breast Surgical Services, in order to provide peer support for Chinese women with breast cancer. The group is open to NYP/Queens breast cancer patients and other breast cancer survivors in the community.

In addition to serving as a peer support group, the “Pink Ribbon Club” featurea lectures from doctors and other professionals on subjects of interest to breast cancer patients and survivors.

“Pink Ribbon Club” sessions will be held on the third Friday of every month at 4 p.m. in the conference room of the Julia and Ned Arnold Center for Radiation Oncology: 56-45 Main St., Flushing, N.Y. (entrance at the corner of 56th Ave. & 141st St. in Flushing).

The support group was initiated in part by NYP/Queens'  Community Health Initiatives program to expand culturally-sensitive services to the diverse communities served by our hospital and medical practices.

Chinese patients make up a significant portion (30 percent) of NYP/Queens total patient population. Last year (2013) approximately 15 percent of breast cancer patients diagnosed and/or treated at NYP/Queens were Chinese, according to hospital data. In addition, according to patient registration information, Chinese is the second most common language spoken by hospital patients overall.

Members of the Chinese community who are in need of service or assistance with NYP/Queens programs or making a clinical appointment, should call the Community Health Initiatives service line at 718-670-1178 or visit http://www.nyp.org/queens/Community-Health-Initiatives
