Flushing, New York
EVENT: New York City Council Member Helen Sears will be the keynote speaker at a graduation ceremony for the fellows, third year residents, and preliminary interns of the Department of Medicine at New York Hospital Queens.
The medical residents completing fellowships or the third year program will now begin their medical practice, or go on to continue their training in a medical specialty or different area of medicine such as research. The hospital reports that over 75 percent of this year’s graduates elected to remain in Queens and the surrounding areas of New York City or Long Island as they continue the development of their careers.
WHERE: New York Hospital Queens - Theresa and Eugene M. Lang Center for Research and Education Auditorium
56-45 Main Street, Flushing, NY, 11355
WHEN: Tuesday, June 19, 2007, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
FYI: As a result of the diversity of the borough and numerous countries of origin for our population, the hospital’s medical residents gained experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of illnesses that physicians trained in more homogenous areas of the country might rarely encounter outside of the medical literature.
As part of the hospital’s broad graduate medicine training program, the Department of Medicine trains young physicians in internal medicine and subspecialty fellowships in gastroenterology, infectious disease, nephrology, geriatrics, cardiology and pulmonary disease. In addition, medical students from affiliate Weill Medical College of Cornell University train at New York Hospital Queens during their third and fourth year rotations in internal medicine and ambulatory care.
