The Division of Geriatrics is conducted jointly by NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens and the Silvercrest Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. It is staffed by both full-time and part-time attending specialized physicians.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens established the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit (ACE Unit) to provide consultation and assessment for older patients who have multiple medical and psychosocial problems.
At Silvercrest, the division provides medical care to the residents in long-term care, rehabilitation, ventilator-dependent care, end-of-life care and Alzheimer's disease units.
The one-year geriatrics fellowship program accommodates 3 fellows each year. Clinical and didactic sessions are integrated into a cohesive schedule consisting of continuity sessions and others that rotate monthly among inpatient, ambulatory and skilled nursing schedules. There are conferences, lectures, and case presentations and fellows participate in the education of medical residents and students. The most outstanding attribute of the program is the breadth and diversity of its' educational experiences, training sites and faculty.
