James J. Rahal, MD, Former Director, Infectious Disease

James J. Rahal, MDJames J. Rahal, MD, had served as Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases from 1988 until his passing in 2011.

A graduate of Harvard College and Tufts University School of Medicine, he did his residency training at both Bellevue Hospital and Tufts/New England Medical Center prior to fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Tufts.

Dr. Rahal had been a Professor of Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. His special interests include antibiotic resistance, hospital acquired infections, West Nile virus and staphylococcal infections.

He had directed significant research in the Infectious Diseases laboratory and served as the program director of the Fellowship in Infectious Diseases. He served as a consulting physician in Infectious Diseases and attending physician in Medicine.

He was a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Rahal was a widely traveled speaker and had published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles. He served on several editorial boards and was recipient of research and teaching awards.
