The Division of Nephrology is committed to achieving excellence in teaching, research and the delivery of high quality nephrology services.  Seven board-certified nephrologists form the core of the division.  All faculty members participate in the delivery of patient care services and the supervision and teaching of nephrology fellows, medical students and medical residents in the accredited internal medical and nephrology training programs.  The division provides an entire range of ambulatory and inpatient consultation and dialysis services. It specializes in all aspects of clinical nephrology including the evaluation and treatment of resistant hypertension and renal stones.

Outpatient dialysis services are provided in the newly modernized, computerized Trude Weishaupt Satellite Dialysis Center in which 224 hemodialysis and 50 peritoneal dialysis patients are treated.  The center has consistently maintained a significantly lower patient morbidity and mortality than the national average.

The faculty actively participates in clinical research studies that explore aspects of dialysis adequacy, nutrition in ESRD patients, pre-ESRD and ESRD anemia and iron balance, and renal bone disease and metabolic disorders.
