Diane Sixsmith, M.D., Chair of Emergency Medicine
Diane Sixsmith, M.D., obtained her bachelor's degree from Trinity
College in Washington, D.C. in 1969. She then attended the University of
Pittsburgh School of Medicine from which she earned her medical degree
in 1973.
In 1977, she achieved a Master of Public Health degree from the Columbia
University School of Public Health. Dr. Sixsmith completed her
internship at Harlem Hospital Center and completed her residency in
Internal Medicine at the same institution in 1976.
Dr. Sixsmith's contribution to peer-reviewed journals are diverse, and
include works on hypothermia, domestic violence, blunt trauma, and drug
abuse. She has authored chapters for textbooks on the topics of
accidents, emergencies and food poisoning. She has also been
co-principal investigator for an HEW grant on the utilization of health
resources due to the complications of drug abuse.
