Free Educational Events & Health Screenings during American Heart Month Sponsored by New York Hospital Queens Heart and Vascular Center

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Flushing, New York - The Heart and Vascular Center of New York Hospital Queens is sponsoring a series of educational presentations and heart risk screenings during February throughout Queens as part of American Heart Month. All the events are free and open to the public.

“We bring resources of our Heart and Vascular Center out to our community, to help men and women learn more about keeping their hearts healthy.  By providing heart risk screenings, including checks of blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, we can identify and aid people who may not be aware that they are at risk for heart disease,” said Jamila Myal, Coordinator of Cardiovascular Community Education, New York Hospital Queens.

Using the results of screening tests, along with a computerized risk assessment process, the registered nurses performing the screenings will provide participating individuals with a personalized risk profile that they can review and discuss with their physicians. Individuals without a personal physician will be given information on how to find a physician in their area.
