Symptoms include initial pain in the affected area, followed by numbness. Skin in affected area is greyish-white, hard and partially frozen.

  1. Get the victim into a warm place.
  2. Put the frozen parts in warm (not hot) water (100-105 F). Handle them gently, but do not rub or massage.
  3. Loosely bandage affect area and elevate. If toes and fingers are affected, put dry sterile gauze between them after rewarming.
  4. Send someone to call 911 or seek medical aid as soon as possible.
