Frostbite
Symptoms include initial pain in the affected area, followed by numbness. Skin in affected area is greyish-white, hard and partially frozen.
- Get the victim into a warm place.
- Put the frozen parts in warm (not hot) water (100-105 F). Handle them gently, but do not rub or massage.
- Loosely bandage affect area and elevate. If toes and fingers are affected, put dry sterile gauze between them after rewarming.
- Send someone to call 911 or seek medical aid as soon as possible.
