Curriculum

Residents are taught through a combination of clinical rounds and didactic sessions. Along with the wide variety of conferences is a board review course that meets on a monthly basis throughout the entire three year residency. This emphasis upon ongoing preparation has produced an excellent pass rate for NYHQ residents taking the boards.

The training program focuses on primary care internal medicine. We shape the program so that residents hold direct responsibility for inpatients while working in teams comprised of an attending physician, junior resident, two interns and medical students.

Rounds are conducted daily under the supervision of the attending, and chief residents are assigned to each team for consultation and weekly teaching rounds. Responsibility for decision-making and patient management is given on a graduated basis through internship and residency.

Our extensive support systems include 24/7 IV teams, daily phlebotomy teams, a laboratory computer system with terminals at each nursing station, full digital radiology with online reporting and availability to review images in all patient care areas, 24 hour respiratory therapy, and EKG technician support throughout the day.

Educational resources include a medical library, micromedex and full access to UpToDate.
