About the
Director and Staff
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Heart & Vascular Center is one of the few centers to offer access to all the latest devices used in catheter-based treatment of heart disease. In one of three, state-of-the-art, digital cineflouroscopic laboratories, highly skilled specialists perform radiographic procedures to diagnose and treat a variety of cardiac problems. Interventional cardiologists employ a range of interventional techniques designed to improve blood flow to the heart and decrease the need for open-heart surgery.
Interventional cardiac services are those diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed on the heart after gaining non-surgical access through blood vessels. A small hole or skin puncture allows the introduction of a "catheter" into a large vessel through which this tiny tube and small instruments can be passed to the heart. These instruments are then used remotely to obtain radiographic images and pressure measurements for diagnosis, as well as to treat coronary vessel blockage.
New York Hospital Queens is leading the way with an innovation that uses a small hole near the wrist (radial catheterization) to make a common, but often urgent, cardiac catheterization procedure easier for many patients.
The hospital’s Heart & Vascular Center offers this cardiac catheterization technique that uses the patient’s wrist (radius) to access blood vessels leading to the heart, rather than in the groin area.
The Heart & Vascular Center offers a full spectrum of interventional services that include the following:
Interventional procedures are technically exacting. Our doctors enjoy an extraordinary success rate that is testimony to their wealth of experience. During the course of a procedure, if prompt and expert surgery is needed, our coordinated team approach makes certain that all patients have all the expertise they need in one location.
