| Phyllis August, MD, MPH is the Director of the Lang Center for Research and Education. She is a Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and an Attending Physician at New York Hospital Queens, and New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell Campus. Dr. August, a native of Brooklyn, NY, received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her medical degree from Yale University. She trained in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital and at The New York Hospital in New York City. She thereafter completed a three year Nephrology - Hypertension Fellowship at The New York Hospital. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and recently received a Masters degree in Public Health from Harvard University School of Public Health. Dr. August's research career has focused on hypertension and kidney disease. She has received continuous research support from the National Institutes of Health for over 15 years and is world-renowned for her studies of the renin angiotensin system and calcium metabolism in normal and hypertensive pregnancy. She has written numerous scientific manuscripts and book chapters on hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, and is frequently asked to speak at national and international meetings in this field. She is currently conducting a large NIH funded study investigating the causes of hypertension and progressive renal failure. Dr. August has mentored many young physicians and students over the
years. She is the Program Director for the Nephrology Fellowship at
Weill Cornell. She has sponsored the research training of Nephrology
Fellows for the last 10 years and is the recipient of a 5-year NIH grant
to train clinical investigators. |
