The Lung Center of NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens

The Lung Center of NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens is a unique resource for physicians seeking consultations or specialized referrals for patients with complex or advanced lung diseases and conditions.

We would be happy to talk with you about our team, our services and our capabilities or to assist you in any way. Please call us at (718) 670-2333.

Among the Center’s special attributes that benefit you:

The Center is composed of a team of NYP/Queens physicians, including thoracic surgeons who are Weill Medical College of Cornell University faculty, and a network of voluntary independent community pulmonary specialists located throughout Queens who are experienced and skilled in treating a broad range of lung and chest disorders. These physicians include specialists in pulmonary medicine, thoracic oncology and minimally invasive lung surgery.

We take a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach to identifying the most appropriate treatment options for patients.

The Center’s Thoracic Surgery and Oncology group is headed by Paul C. Lee, M.D., Vice Chairman, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Chief, Thoracic Surgery Division, and Subroto Paul, M.D., Director, Minimally Invasive Lung Surgery. The Center’s Pulmonary Medicine group is headed by Stephen R. Karbowitz, M.D., FCCP, Director, Division of Pulmonology.

Our pulmonary specialists work as a team with thoracic and lung surgeons at NYP/Queens.

At weekly Pulmonary Clinical Conferences we meet to hold in-depth discussions on current medical literature, standards of care and new techniques as they relate to our patients with lung disease.

At our multi-disciplinary Tumor Board, which meets regularly, specific cancer cases are
discussed by pulmonologists, pathologists, thoracic surgeons, radiologists, and medical and radiation oncologists.

The Lung Center physicians and surgeons lead CME classes, are involved in the education of residents and fellows, and conduct grand rounds and other educational activities, including annual symposiums.

The Center is organized to work collaboratively with primary care physicians as both a resource and a referral center. We work in partnership with you to identify which types of diagnostic testing are needed, and then confer on the range of treatment options available, including referral to a pulmonary specialist.

When diagnostic testing, surgery or other in-hospital care is needed, patient convenience is emphasized.

  • Pulmonary critical care fellows are available 24/7 to assist at your direction.
  • Patient coordinators assist with scheduling all needed tests.
  • We have multi-lingual staff members, including those who speak Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and other languages.
