In the MRI Suite, a patient’s comfort is our top priority. The suite is a quiet and relaxed environment where patients may listen to music during the procedure. Highly trained and sensitive staff are available to calm any anxiety that may arise from having a test. In some cases, a patient may have a contrast injection which helps radiologists see an area of the body. MRI is well-suited for imaging soft tissue, such as the spinal cord, brain, muscle, and joints, such as the shoulder, knee, ankle, wrist. The MRI Suite at New York Hospital Queens is accredited by the American College of Radiologists.
In most cases, no before-test preparations are needed for an MRI. A technologist will bring the patient to the suite and explain the exam. The patient will lie on a flat table and the table will slide the patient into position in the MRI unit. Most MRI exams take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
