Flushing, New York - While some were still actively ringing in the new year in Times Square, local Springfield Gardens resident, Lashell Goffe, woke up around 3:30 a.m., in labor, ready for her own celebration.
“Even though it was about a week early, I knew it was time,” said Ms. Goffe. “My contractions were running five minutes apart and I felt pretty calm, but knew my baby was ready come into this world.”
Ms. Goffe, along with her fiancé, Owen Beech, and their 11 month-old son, Jonathon, arrived at New York Hospital Queens just in time, since she was very close to having her baby. At 5:37 a.m., Ms. Goffe gave birth to Alana Lashell, weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces and measuring 20 and a half inches in length.
“Owen and I are so happy and we know that Jonathon will be a wonderful big brother,” stated Ms. Goffe. “We thank New York Hospital Queens for the great care they provided.”
Ms. Goffe’s nurse, Ginny Gerace, RN, from New York Hospital Queens Mother/Baby Unit added, “This joy and recognition couldn’t have happened to a nicer family. What a great way to start the new year!”
