New York Hospital Queens Pediatric Asthma Center Relocates Facilities

More services for kids and families now available in Fresh Meadows location

Flushing, New York - New York Hospital Queens announces the relocation of its Pediatric Asthma Center to a new and larger facility in Fresh Meadows. The center, previously located on Booth Memorial Avenue, is now located at 59-16 174th Street, adjacent to several other specialty clinics operated by the hospital.

Patients and families can contact the center for appointments at (718) 670-1920. The new location has ample space for parking and is accessible via several bus routes. A hotline is available at (800) 926-5182 for night or weekend emergencies.

Along with this new location, the Pediatric Asthma Center – the longest-running center of its kind in Queens – also provides services at The Jackson Heights Family Health Center at 73-15 Northern Boulevard. The NYHQ Mobile Asthma Unit has been renovated and can travel upon request to provide services at other locations, such as community health fairs.

“Moving our Pediatric Asthma Center to Fresh Meadows enhances our ability to provide the highest level of care for young asthma sufferers,” said Joseph J. Abularrage, M.D., Chairman, Department of Pediatrics. “This spacious, convenient new center allows us to expand services that can help kids and their families manage this condition, and find the support they need to stay healthy and active.”

At the Pediatric Asthma Center patients and families have access to special programs from the hospital’s Pediatric Child Life Program, such as parent support groups, teenage mentoring programs, Snoozelen (a sensory tool that can comfort and educate children) and art therapy.  Fit Kids, a program to help children overcome weight issues and low self-esteem, is also available at the new Fresh Meadows location.

The NYHQ Department of Pediatrics serves children and families in Queens with an experienced staff of general pediatric attending physicians and sub specialists. In addition to the Pediatric Asthma Center, the hospital’s full spectrum of pediatric services includes a state-of-the-art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a child-friendly Pediatric Emergency Room and the Theresa Lang Children’s Ambulatory Care Center.

New York Hospital Queens is a member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System and affiliated with Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
