Flushing, NY, June 12, 2009 – New York Hospital Queens inspires its physicians-in-training to conduct research and develop evidence-based best practices for patient care by way of a unique annual program hosted by the hospital’s Eugene and Theresa Lang Center for Research and Education. More than 200 physicians and medical professionals attended the recent Residents and Fellows Day 2009.
This program helps cultivate research interest among NYHQ residents and fellows by teaching research essentials and helping them to conduct and present a project. An innovative curriculum combines monthly lectures with one-to-one mentoring with other physicians and researchers.
Research Day presentations are evaluated by members of the research center’s Scientific Advisory Board for soundness of methodology, potential impact on patients and quality of the presentation itself.
World-renowned expert in cardiology, Kim Allan Williams, M.D., professor of medicine and director of nuclear cardiology at the University of Chicago School of Medicine delivered the keynote address on “The Changing Politics of Economic and Cardiac Imaging.” He also moderated a scientific debate with residents and fellows during the program on the topic, “Imaging Patients in the ED at Moderate Risk for CAD: an Anatomic vs. Physiologic Debate.”

The Eugene and Theresa Lang Center for Research and Education was established in 2001 with the goal to create new knowledge by conducting cutting edge clinical research, and to integrate excellent clinical care with research and education.
