New York Hospital Queens Selects Candida Amorim as November Employee of the Month

Candida_AmorimCandida Amorim, Senior Echo Technician in the Department of Radiology, has been selected as November’s Employee of the Month. A resident of New Hyde Park, she began her career at the hospital 25 years ago.

Ms. Amorim was selected by a panel of professional and support staff because “she is a dedicated employee that goes above and beyond the scope of her services.She has been with the hospital 25 years and in all her years at New York Hospital Queens she has always put patient care first.”

Ms. Amorim’s duties include performing echocardiograms and echo stress tests. These tests use sound waves to create a moving picture of the heart. The picture is much more detailed than x-ray imaging and involves no radiation exposure. Following exercise or other stress to the heart, an echo stress test images reveal parts of the heart that may not be receiving enough blood or oxygen because of blocked arteries.

“My greatest joy comes from being there for the patient,” said Ms. Amorim. “I try to lessen their anxiety by talking to them and explaining what they can expect at each stage of the process.”

In her spare time, Ms. Amorim loves gardening. She is also a volunteer at the Metropolitan Maltese Rescue. Ms. Amorim has one daughter, Antoinette.
