Friday, August 29, 2008

pascarelli_geraldFlushing, New York -  Gerald Pascarelli, Senior Coder and Abstractor for the Ambulatory Services Unit in the Health Information Management Department, was selected as August Employee of the Month. A resident of Astoria, N.Y., Mr. Pascarelli joined our hospital in December 1979.

Mr. Pascarelli received his bachelor’s degree in medical records at Hunter College in New York. His responsibilities include coding diagnoses and operative procedures for ambulatory surgery patients. Mr. Pascarelli said he loves the daily challenge of accurately coding the medical information of treated patients for hospital reimbursement.

What makes Mr. Pascarelli most proud is his longevity here at NYHQ. “ It satisifies me—it gives me a good feeling that I’ve been here for 29 years,” he said. “Some people have been working here longer than me—these people are part of my work family,” said Mr. Pascarelli.

A panel of professional and support staff selected Pascarelli because, in their words, “His attention to detail makes him a specialist in the field of interventional radiology coding. He’s our ‘go-to’ guy for coding questions and won’t answer until he’s comfortable his research is complete and precise.”

Mr. Pascarelli has been happily married for 31 years and has three children. He enjoys watching sporting events, especially Yankee baseball games.
