Friday, February 23, 2007

kwiath_peterFlushing, NY - Peter Kwiath, Assistant Supervisor of the EMT-Paramedic Ambulance Division, has been selected as New York Hospital Queens’ February Employee of the Month. A resident of Whitestone, Kwiath started working at the hospital in 1989.

Kwiath is responsible for the scheduling and day-to-day operations of the hospital’s paramedics. He monitors the geographical locations around the hospital that require assistance and manages the positioning of the hospital’s ambulances throughout Queens.

A panel of professional and support staff selected Kwiath because in their words, “his commitment to the hospital and our community makes him stand out.” Kwiath’s dedication includes collaborating with several other members of the emergency department on FreeMAT, a program they founded to collect and ship supplies to the soldiers in Iraq.

Kwiath, a paramedic for more than 15 years, began his career working for the New York City Fire Department. He came to New York Hospital Queens as a part-time paramedic, and in February 2001, changed his status to full-time.

“With my job, I enjoy that no two days are the same,” said Kwiath. “I like meeting the daily challenges that arise from emergency response management. I also enjoy working with our director and dedicated team.”

In his spare time, Kwiath enjoys participating in outdoor activities. He has been married to his wife, Linda, for 25 years and his only daughter, Laura, will be married in September.
