Flushing, NY, July 21, 2009 – New York Hospital Queens President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen S. Mills recently joined with Queens College President James Muyskens, Ph.D., to unveil artwork donated by the college’s Godwin-Ternbach Museum for display throughout the hospital.

The artwork - one original painting and 21 posters – is the result of an ongoing and multi-faceted collaboration between the college and hospital. Each of the posters on display throughout the hospital represents artwork featured within the Queens College Godwin-Ternbach Museum. Displays range from images of Queens cultural icon Louis Armstrong to “the Grandeur of Islamic Art in Image and Object,” the subject of a former exhibition.

The original painting was executed in an "all-over" style prevalent in the 1970s that grew out of abstract expressionism.  Called "Color Field Painting" this style shares a more impressionist concern with light and color, evident in the pink and green harmonies of this canvas. The cheerful pastel colors and soft brush marks in the painting generate a feeling of wellness and wholeness, appropriate to the setting of New York Hospital Queens.

New York Hospital Queens and Queens College’s Continuing Education Program participate in a corporate-college partnership, hosting various classes throughout the hospital, including business management, medical technology, computers in health care and English as a second language in the workplace. The program also runs an on-site Management Studies Program for the hospital’s supervisory staff members.

Queens College officials visit New York Hospital Queens to present one of 22 pieces of artwork donated by the college’s Godwin-Ternbach Museum.
