Flushing, New York - Nurses who are studying pediatric asthma, pressure ulcers (bed sores), geriatric issues, and the effect of aromatherapy on patient care recently presented their findings at New York Hospital Queens’ 6th Annual Nursing Research Conference.
To kickoff the conference, George Heinrich, MD, Chairman of the hospital’s Board of Trustees, announced a $10,000 gift to help fund the 2008 Nursing Research Fellowship Program, on behalf of his wife, Debra Heinrich (a nurse by profession).
The fellowship program was specially designed to foster a rich culture of nursing research at New York Hospital Queens. There will be two Nursing Research Fellows from the hospital, one at the staff RN level, and one at the advanced nurse level. As a fellow, a nurse enters a two-year research commitment. During that time, s/he is educated on the principles and process of conducting research from design of a study to final presentation. The two 2008 fellows will be expected to present their projects at next year’s nursing research conference.
As a major teaching hospital, New York Hospital Queens incorporates education and research in its mission. Our hospital’s Theresa and Eugene M. Lang Center for Research and Education is at the forefront of translating research-based learning into improvements in patient care and community health.
New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
