EVENT: New York Hospital Queens and Deepdale Gardens Community Council team up for their 18th annual community blood drive at the Samuel Field YM & YWHA (Young Men & Young Women Hebrew Association) in Little Neck.
WHO: All blood collected by the NYHQ Blood Donor Center remains in our borough to help Queens residents. Those who typically require blood may have been involved in accidents, surgeries, or need treatment for cancer or blood disease. Fifteen minutes is all it takes to help save a life.
Those who donate blood are entered into a raffle held by the Deepdale Gardens Community Council. Prizes include $50 savings bonds, restaurant gift certificates, and many other items donated by local merchants. Blood donors are offered refreshments, bagels and sandwiches.
WHERE: Sunday, August 10 (7:30 a.m.to 4 p.m.)
Samuel Field YM & YWHA
58-20 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck, NY 11362
To pledge, call (718) 428-5050 or go to www.QueensBloodDonor.org.
WHY: The summer months are a challenging time for blood collection. It is when the blood supply reaches critically low levels. This poses a serious threat to much needed supplies of O negative and O positive blood. During this time, members of the Queens community are greatly needed in helping sustain a healthy blood supply for those in need.
