Special Heart Health Fair February 24 for Our Chinese Community

WHAT: A Heart Health Fair for the Chinese community. Please encourage members of the community to attend a special event where they can learn about protecting cardiovascular health. Recent studies indicate that elevated blood pressure, elevated total cholesterol, obesity, and smoking are major risk factors for heart disease in Chinese populations. February is Heart Month and New York Hospital Queens is offering this free event on February 24 to help our neighbors stay healthy.

This special fair will offer:

  1. Free lectures by cardiac experts
  2. Free health screenings – for cholesterol, blood pressure and weight
  3. Light refreshments

WHERE: Flushing YMCA – 138-46 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY  11354

WHEN: Saturday, February 24, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

WHO: The fair is open to the public.  Speakers will include the following experts:

  1. Dr. Wai L. Leung: “Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease,” from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
  2. Dr. Kaman Ng, Associate Director, NYHQ Cardiology Fellowship: “Coronary Artery Disease,” from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  3. Dr. John T. Hsueh: “Heart Failure,” from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Background:

  1. New York Hospital Queens offers high-quality cardiac services and surgery; many of our physicians and nurses speak Mandarin or Cantonese
  2. Our cardiac experts are available for comment and can provide reporters with information on trends, new research and innovative procedures.
