The Division of Primary Care is staffed by three full-time attending physicians and is housed in a modern ambulatory care facility located two miles from the hospital. The Primary Care Division serves the comprehensive and urgent health care needs of a culturally diverse patient population at the Ambulatory Care Center in Fresh Meadows.
The Ambulatory Care Center provides both urgent and comprehensive primary care services, and houses both medical subspecialty services (heart disease, lung disease, joint disease, diabetes/hormones, care for the elderly, osteoporosis, liver disease, gastrointestinal disease, kidney disease and hypertension, and allergies) and surgical services (including podiatry). Diagnostic testing is available on-site.
Each categorical medical resident is assigned to a half-day session per week in this clinic, developing his/her own panel of patients. The resident is responsible for maintaining the continuity and the coordination of all health care needs for his/her patient base over three years of training. The attending physicians based at the Ambulatory Care Center directly supervise the residents in this activity, nurturing core clinical skills in ambulatory medicine, as well as essential humanistic and ethical values.
