| We do our very best
to accommodate patients’ busy lives by scheduling
convenient appointments. Our staff book appointments for
all procedures and six dedicated phone lines minimize patient
waiting time. Most appointments can be scheduled within
one day, while all emergencies are handled with a same day
appointment.
We have also expanded our hours of
operation to facilitate late afternoon, early evening and
weekend appointments for CT scans, MRI, Digital Mammography,
and Ultrasound. A board-certified Radiologist is on duty
to supervise all procedures in the Department until 11 p.m.
every night.
Designed for Patient Convenience and Comfort
The Imaging Service is located in
a separate, freestanding facility, away from the flow of
hospital inpatients. The reception and waiting rooms have
an attractive, home-like atmosphere - like a private office
setting.
Additional convenience features include:
Private waiting space, lockers and
dressing rooms for women
Private entrance to sonography examination
room for expectant fathers wishing to view prenatal sonograms
Most insurance accepted
Quick resolution of billing difficulties
Rapid Reporting
Results are faxed and mailed to the
referring physician within 48 hours. For physicians who
need immediate access to a patient’s examination results,
24 hour access to our Digital Dictation System is available.

Professional Team
The department staff includes nineteen,
full-time, board-certified Radiologists, all of whom hold
faculty appointments at Weill Medical College of Cornell
University. The radiologists also have had additional subspecialty
training in neuroradiology, cross-sectional imaging, ultrasound
and interventional radiology. They are available from 8
a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week and are also available
for emergencies 24 hours a day.
Department technologists are licensed
by New York State and all are registered with the American
Registry of Radiologic Technologists. All divisions of the
Radiology are affiliated with technologist training programs
to ensure that they remain current in imaging advances.
The Radiology Group has been in practice
at the Medical Center continuously since 1966, including
18 years of experience in private practice as Main Street
Radiology. Our Mammography Division was one of the first
in the area to receive accreditation from the American College
of Radiology (ACR).
A Special Women's Center
The
offers the latest imaging procedures performed by board
certified Radiologists and highly trained technologists
on the most advanced imaging equipment available including
new GE digital mammography units, a mammotome biopsy unit,
and a cad system to assist Radiologist in making a more
accurate diagnosis. The breast imaging service at NYHQ has
become a major referral center over the past decade for
screening and diagnostic mammography, in addition to specific
problems of mammographic diagnosis.
- Screening and diagnostic mammography
- Needle biopsies of breast masses
- Wire localization prior to surgical
breast biopsy
- Obstetrical-gynecological ultrasound
examinations
- Fetal echocardiography in
conjunction with a staff pediatric cardiologist
The Women’s Imaging Center performs breast biopsies
using a vacuum assisted system. This method aids in the
diagnosis of a breast abnormality such as microcalcifications
and speculated masses. This procedure is done on an outpatient
basis and usually takes less than an hour.
The patient lies face down on a special table. Her breast
falls through a hole and is gently compressed while the
Radiologist makes the necessary calculations on the area
of concern. Once the site is targeted an injection of local
anesthetic is given to the breast. A small skin nic of about
a 1⁄4 inch is made. A probe is then inserted and gently
cuts, vacuums and removes tissue samples. Multiple specimens
are taken without removing and reinserting the device. The
Radiologist may place a tiny titanium marker to identify
the biopsy site for any future surgery or to follow-up on
the area. After the procedure only an adhesive strip needs
to be applied. The patient can resume normal activities.
