Flushing, NY, April 7, 2009 – Scotland’s Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will be visiting New York Hospital Queens this week to talk with hospital medical leaders on combating infectious diseases. This will be the minister’s only visit to a hospital during a week-long tour of the United States, and two-day stay in New York City.

In late 2007, New York Hospital Queens received an award as one of 100 hospitals that has demonstrated the greatest progress in improving hospital-wide performance over five consecutive years. The distinction caught the attention of Ms. Sturgeon, who is also the Scottish Health and Well Being Minister, and who will be observing New York Hospital Queens’ work on patient safety and infectious diseases.

Reporters who are interested in interviewing the Health Minister while she is here should contact Scott Sieber at 718-593670-1579, or e-mail at scs9013@nyp.org.
