NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens has an active Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, which was established in 1996. A team of four cardiothoracic surgeons, members of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Campus, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, provide a complete spectrum of surgical services to patients with diseases of the chest.
Cardiac procedures include Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, Valve repair/replacement, repair of Aortic Dissection/Aneurysms, surgery for atrial fibrillation and all arterial revascularization. The general thoracic surgery service performs esophagectomies, tracheal resections, pulmonary resections, minimally invasive thoracoscopic procedures and laser treatment for tracheal stenosis.
We take pride in our collaborative, integrated approach to patient management. All members of the team from the cardiologist, cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivists, working with the surgeons provide patients with outstanding care. It also provides surgical residents with the opportunity to rotate on the Cardiothoracic Surgery service and participate in the intraoperative and perioperative management of patients as part of their comprehensive educational experience.
NYP/Queens is one of the only hospitals in Queens to provide cardiac surgical services. Most important, our outcomes have been some of the best in the state as reported by the New York State Department of Health.
