About the Program
The objective of the transitional year is to provide a well-balanced
program of graduate medical education in multiple clinical disciplines
designed to facilitate the choice of and/or preparation for a specific
specialty. There are twelve positions.
On-Call
-
Transitional Year residents rotating through Medicine and
Surgery participate in the same on-call schedule as the
categorical and preliminary PGY 1's in both disciplines:
-
Medicine: Every 4th night until 9 pm except on Fridays - call is
overnight until 10 am, plus 2 weeks of night float assigned
during one of their block rotations.
Surgery: TY residents have 2 - 3 calls per month plus 2
weeks of night float assigned during one of their block
rotations.
-
All programs are in compliance with NYSDOH 405 regulations which
require that residents not exceed an average of 80 hours of work
time per week over one month.
-
Elective Rotations in non-accredited programs do not require
residents to be on-call. Duty hours do not exceed a normal
workweek of 40 hours in these rotations.
Program Director, Anthony A. Somogyi, M.D.
