Heart Health and Safety Tips
for Surviving Winter Weather

Dr. David Slotwiner, chief of Cardiology, and Dr. Jeffrey Rosen, chairman, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, and their fellow physicians offer the following tips to help local residents stay healthy and avoid injury during the winter months:

  • Go easy on the shoveling
  • Learn the signs of heart attack 
  • Avoid heavy meals or alcohol before or after shoveling
  • Prevent hypothermia
  • Maintain a heart-healthy diet
  • Get a flu shot 
  • Avoid slips and trips
  • Stock up on salt
  • Don't rush
  • Stay warm
  • Avoid carrying items
  • Exercise caution getting in and out of a car
