Rotations
The Department of Dental and Oral Medicine enjoys two off-site rotations.
The rotation at Silvercrest Extended Care Facility offers comprehensive
care to all residents of the facility and strengthens our program with
a teaching component in gerontology.
The rotation at the satellite ambulatory care facility in Jamaica, Queens,
gives the resident an opportunity to treat a seriously underserved,
medically compromised and developmentally disabled population.
A required 2-week rotation in the department of anesthesiology is scheduled
for each resident during which he/she is instructed in respiratory and
cardiac monitoring intubation, starting I.V.’s, pharmacology and
the management of patients in a crisis situation.
A complete listing of rotations includes:
• Anesthesiology-70 hours
• Emergency medicine-80 hours
• Medicine rotation-75 hours
• Radiology/Radiation Oncology- 1 day each
• Oral Pathology- 2 weeks
• Nursing home rotation at Silvercrest
• Satellite ambulatory care program in Jamaica, Queens
In addition, the dental residents alternate emergency on-call responsibilities
every 13 days. Assignment to blood drawing rounds is a portion of the
program as well.
We have 2 fully-equipped operatories in the emergency room. Every resident
rotates through the ER facility as part of his/her program.

oral and maxillofacial trauma and pathology cases to the dental service
each month.
