Burton Wasserman, D.D.S., chairman, Department of Dental and Oral Medicine at New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) was honored as the 2012 recipient of the Theresa Lang Award. The Theresa Lang Dinner was held at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan on November 12, 2012. The Theresa Lang Award recognizes outstanding achievement in the areas of research, medical education or patient care. This is the highest award offered to a member of the NYHQ medical staff. Dr. Wasserman was honored for his leadership and dedication to NYHQ for more than 50 years.

Dr. Wasserman founded the Department of Dentistry at New York Hospital Queens (then Booth Memorial Hospital) in 1962. He is an avid educator and an author, as well as a principal investigator for numerous government grants. He is an expert in hospital dental residency training as well as dental care for special needs patients.

“Receiving this award is incredibly meaningful to me because of my friendship with Theresa Lang,” said Dr. Wasserman.“ The growth of NYHQ has been spectacular and I am proud to be a partner in that process. The hospital has given me room to grow that has allowed my department to achieve national recognition.”

The Theresa Lang Dinner was introduced in 2006 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of New York Hospital Queens. It is named in honor of the late Theresa Lang, a volunteer, philanthropist and leading member of the Board of Trustees. For more than 30 years, Mrs. Lang worked tirelessly to move NYHQ to the forefront of community health care across the country.
