The Surgical Residency Program at New York Hospital Queens is fully
approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
There are 5 categorical positions per year as well as 6
preliminary PGY-1 residents. The Department of Surgery
employs a number of very experienced physician's assistants who assist
in the management of the inpatients.
Residents obtain rich, and varied clinical experiences. They benefit from a fully structured didactic program to which the faculty devotes considerable effort. There are many opportunities for clinical research within the institution. Residents are fully trained in all aspects of general surgery and also enjoy full, undiluted exposure to all the major surgical specialties. They are exposed to a large volume of complex cases. Clinical material in the subspecialties is entirely the purview of the general surgical residents.
Surgical residents trained at New York Hospital Queens typically develop broad experience in the treatment of the full range of clinical problems. A wealth of general surgical material ensures that each graduate will have established proficiency in the major areas of general surgical endeavor, and the absence of sub-specialty fellows in the institution allows for extensive resident exposure to surgical procedures within the various specialty areas.
