Lotus Ahmed, MD

Dr. Lotus Ahmed is an Academic Hospitalist within the Division of Hospital Medicine and Core Faculty Member within the Medicine the Medicine Residency Program at New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ).  She is a graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, received her undergraduate education at Barnard College, and Post Graduate Studies at Columbia University.  She is board certified in Internal Medicine and had her residency training in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital Queens from 2009-2012.

During Dr. Ahmed’s residency training she took an active role in Graduate Medical Education in the Department of Medicine, serving for three years as the designated class representative in the institutional GME Committee. She also participated on several quality improvement projects and research projects during her residency, including an “Inpatient Redesign” task force which worked to improve patient care and safety on the teaching service.  As a Hospitalist Attending at NYHQ, her primary focus is on academics, with her current interests within the Division being medical education, residency training and improving patient care.  One of her ongoing projects is developing methods to improve the incorporation of evidence based medicine into daily teaching rounds  on the medical floors.  She is also pursuing research studies assessing “opt-out” HIV screening among patients over age 50 years hospitalized for pneumonia or tuberculosis; and assessing appropriate documentation of room air oxygenation and subsequent use of supplemental oxygen in patients hospitalized for respiratory distress.
