2017 Dr. Holly Anderson Scholar Named

Kieran Palumbo, a pre-med student, is the Lang Research Center’s fifth Dr. Holly Andersen Scholar. Kieran is serving as assistant research coordinator for INVESTED, an NIH study led by Dr. Gregory Pontone, M.D. and Phyllis August, M.D. He is also a key member of an antimicrobial stewardship study being conducted at New York Presbyterian Queens by the Infectious Diseases Department. This important study, funded by the United Hospital Fund, attempts to improve antibiotic prescription procedures for respiratory illness at multiple outpatient sites.
“It is a great honor to be named the Dr. Holly Andersen Scholar for this year,” Kieran says. “I am excited about my work as a member of this clinical research team not only because of the opportunity to be a part of potential medical advances, but the extended patient interaction and teaching this role affords as well. I know that these experiences will prove invaluable to me as a medical student andultimately as a practicing physician.”
Kieran obtained his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology and English from Boston College in May 2017.
His background blends the sciences and the humanities, with previous experience in both research and publications. We are delighted to have a student with such an impressive and well-rounded resume. He plans to attend medical school in the fall of 2018.
The Dr. Holly Andersen Scholarship was established with a gift from Eugene M. Lang in recognition of the compassionate and skilled care personal physician, Dr. Andersen.
