Flushing-Raised Physician Focused on Relieving Bone and Joint Pain

Flushing, N.Y., November 12, 2010- To better serve the Chinese community in downtown Flushing, the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation Medicine at New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) has opened an office in the medical building “Queens Crossing” staffed by an orthopaedist who is fluent in the Cantonese, Mandarin and the Chaozhou dialects of Chinese.

Patients with knee, elbow, shoulder, joint, wrist, hip or ankle pain are welcome to see Tony Quach, M.D., an attending orthopaedic surgeon at NYHQ, at this new office in Queens Crossing on the second and fourth Friday of each month. The entrance to the office is located at 136-20 38th Avenue (Suite 6D). Physicians may also request a consultation for a patient.

Dr. Quach, who was raised in Flushing, has a special interest in bone and joint pain relief through the treatment of disorders of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee, as well as arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery.  He graduated from Cornell University magna cum laude with a distinction in biology.  As an undergraduate at Cornell, he was awarded the Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Scholarship, and National Science Foundation Undergraduate Fellowship, for his research in DNA mismatch repair, which resulted in several publications. In 2000, Dr. Quach was selected as a United States representative to the 2nd China Synergy Program.

Dr. Quach received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases. During his orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the University of Los Angeles California, he was a team physician for the UCLA Bruins football, baseball, soccer, tennis, track and field, golf and swimming teams.

The Orthopaedics & Rehabilitative Medicine Program at New York Hospital Queens offers the community the most sophisticated, high-quality orthopaedic care available anywhere today –we are now known as The Bone and Joint Hospital of Queens.

NYHQ surgeons utilize arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, hand, and ankle. Among the surgeries we offer are joint resurfacing and minimally invasive hip surgeries. NYHQ is the only hospital in Long Island and Queens, and one of only three sites nationwide, to offer patients the HemiCAP ® Focal Resurfacing system, an investigational procedure designed to repair injured knee cartilage while protecting healthy cartilage to help prevent further damage. Outside the United States the system has been approved and available for over six years. This minimally invasive resurfacing system offers patients an alternative to total knee replacement and can be a great advantage to younger patients with arthritic problems and older, active adults.

Tony Quach, M.D.
