New York Hospital Queens Inducted Into The
Queens Chamber of Commerce Building Hall of Fame
Flushing, New York, February 7, 2011 - New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) received the Queens Hall of Fame Building Award at the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s 98th Annual Building Awards and Reception for the new West Building. The ceremony was held on January 20 at Queens Theatre in the Park. Additionally, Perkins Eastman Architects and Barr & Barr Builders who were responsible for the design and construction of the new 190,000 square foot building were also honored at the event.
The West Building includes a number of amenities designed to ease access for patients, physicians and families. A new light-filled atrium lobby welcomes visitors in languages used throughout the diverse neighborhoods of Queens County. A spectacular four-lane drop off and entryway is located on Main Street, near the corner of Booth Memorial Avenue.
Major features include two, state-of-the-art patient units, 40 beds each, with private and semi-private rooms, and a new ambulatory surgery center with 10 new operating rooms and 33 recovery beds. The expansion also increases the hospital’s overall capacity to perform surgical and interventional procedures with a unique hybrid operating suite for endovascular and interventional radiology procedures that can be converted to perform vascular procedures in the same room.
This construction, plus a three level parking facility, was completed in 40 months. The total cost of the project was approximately $210 million.
Representatives from the hospital, Perkins Eastman Architects and Barr & Barr Builders were on hand to receive the award. Stephen S. Mills, President and Chief Executive Officer stated, “It’s the people of the borough of Queens that are really honored tonight. They now have some of the best health care facilities anywhere in the country right here in the borough of Queens.”
