Flushing, N.Y., March 14, 2011 – To help area residents understand how problems that affect the hips and knees can be treated, New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) will offer a free symposium on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Lang Auditorium at 56-45 Main Street (at Booth Memorial Avenue) in Flushing, N.Y.

Each year, thousands of people in Queens experience disorders of the bones, joints and muscles. The good news is that orthopaedic problems are highly treatable and new surgical techniques have been developed that are less invasive and allow for faster recovery. There has also been tremendous progress in rehabilitation and pain management techniques which can help patients avoid surgery or aid in their recovery when surgery is necessary.

The symposium will feature presentations by the hospital’s orthopaedic and rehabilitation experts that will help those in attendance better understand the musculoskeletal system for hips and knees as well as the comprehensive treatment and rehabilitative options offered at NYHQ and an out patient center in Fresh Meadows.

There will also be a discussion on new orthopaedic procedures that utilize minimally invasive techniques, allow shorter recovery times and can reduce the risk of infections and other complications.  NYHQ is leading the way in Queens to offer these services.

New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
