Flushing, N.Y., August 3, 2012 —The Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Care Medicine at New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) hosted an educational visit for physicians, from the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Beijing Long-Fu Hospital in China, who were interested in having an informational exchange about geriatric and palliative care medicine.
The day began with a warmhearted welcome ceremony where elected officials bestowed proclamations from New York State and New York City. Executives and medical staff from NYHQ exchanged gifts of appreciation with the visiting physicians. The physicians toured NYHQ including the emergency room and the transitional care unit for patients making the transition between hospital and home, visited with inpatients receiving orthopaedic rehabilitation and reviewed the radiation oncology unit for cancer care.
Long-Fu Hospital is a 251-bed, teaching hospital that has a strong focus on geriatric care and rehabilitation. The Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a broad range of programs from undergraduate through doctoral programs with courses focused on holistic Chinese medical such as acupuncture.
New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
