- Ranked Among Top 10 percent of Hospitals in the Nation -

Flushing, N.Y., September 25, 2012 – For the sixth consecutive year, New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) ranks among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation in the HealthGrades multi-state evaluation for maternity care. HealthGrades is a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. NYHQ is one of only 20 hospitals in the U.S. to receive this distinction for six years consecutively.

In recognition of the hospital’s commitment to providing a higher level of care, a representative from HealthGrades presented NYHQ with the 2011 and 2012 Maternity Care Excellence Awards yesterday. During the presentation, Assembly Member Grace Meng, representing the hospital’s assembly district, spoke of her positive experiences with NYHQ’s Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby services.

New York Hospital Queens received the highest two rankings by HealthGrades (5-star = top 15%, and Maternity Care Excellence Award = top 10%) based on a number of measurements, including: incidence of maternal complications for single live vaginal and Cesarean deliveries; overall volume and volume of low birth weight deliveries; and risk-adjusted infant mortality rates for single live deliveries.

According to a research study conducted by HealthGrades, findings showed that women who give birth at 5-star rated hospitals experience 62 percent fewer complications than at hospitals rated 1-star (bottom 15%).

New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
