NYHQ Provides Free Stroke Risk Assessments and Lectures to the Community

Flushing, N.Y., May 7, 2013 — Medical and nursing staff from New York Hospital Queens provided free stroke risk assessments to close to 80 members of the community in recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month. Participants also attended lectures on stroke, seizures, multiple sclerosis, back pain and headaches, and had questions answered by the hospital’s medical experts.

Stroke is the #4 killer in the U.S., and is a leading cause of adult disability. Each year, about 800,000 people in the U.S. suffer from a stroke.

The NYHQ Neuroscience Institute is comprised of several specialty centers — the Center for Developmental Disabilities, the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, the New York State Designated Stroke Center, the Multiple Sclerosis Center and the Neuromuscular/Spine Center.

New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and is affiliated with Weill Medical College of Cornell University. For more information on New York Hospital Queens, visit www.nyhq.org.
