Longtime Queens Business Owners and Former Borough President of Queens to be Honored at NYHQ’s A Spring Night Gala
Georgia and Dimitrios Kaloidis, owners of Terrace on the Park and
the Georgia Diner, and
the Honorable Claire Shulman to Receive Awards for Dedication to
Developing Queens
WHAT:
New York Hospital Queens will honor longtime business owners
and philanthropists, Georgia and Dimitrios Kaloidis, and the former
Queens Borough President, the Honorable Claire Shulman, at the annual A
Spring Night Gala. These honorees have helped shape the Queens community
and have been the backbone of the borough for many years.
The Pacesetter Award, the hospital’s highest honor, will be presented to Georgia and Dimitrios Kaloidis for their charitable work benefiting health, educational and religious institutions in both the U.S. and Greece. NYHQ will present the Honorable Claire Shulman with the inaugural Community Service Award for her continuous efforts to build a better Queens.
A Spring Night Gala is New York Hospital Queens’ major fundraising event. Proceeds will benefit the continued development of the hospital’s comprehensive cancer program that integrates current diagnostic and treatment services.

WHO:
During the cocktail reception, members of the press will have
the opportunity to interview the honorees, Georgia and Dimitrios
Kaloidis, and the Honorable Claire Shulman; Stephen S. Mills, president
and chief executive officer, NYHQ; and George Heinrich, M.D., chairman,
NYHQ Board of Trustees.

ABOUT THE NYHQ CANCER CENTER
Cancer affects people of all races, ethnicities and
socioeconomic groups. On average, there are more than 10,000 cancer
cases diagnosed and 3,300 cancer deaths each year in Queens county. At
the NYHQ Cancer Center, the entire continuum of cancer care—prevention,
screening, diagnostics, treatment and recovery—is a top priority. The
center’s staff provide comprehensive services to approximately 2,000
newly diagnosed patients each year, including those with brain, lung,
breast, blood, prostate, colorectal, gynecological, oral, head and neck
cancers.
In addition to our many educational, prevention and screening services, as well as navigation support, the cancer center provides a wide range of individually targeted treatment protocols. These protocols incorporate medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery and clinical studies. The Cancer Center is also a leading provider of brachytherapy, a form of internal radiation therapy involving seed implantation.
New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and is affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
ABOUT GEORGIA AND DIMITRIOS KALOIDIS
Dimitrios Kaloidis and Georgia Kaloidis
founded a chain of diners, restaurants and banquet facilities that
include the renowned Georgia Diner on Queens Boulevard, and the classic
banquet and event facility, Terrace on the Park. Today, their business
endeavors are an integral part of the Queens community. Mr. and Mrs.
Kaloidis are generous philanthropists and humanitarians. The couple has
made major contributions to churches, monasteries, hospitals (including
NYHQ) and schools in the U.S. and in Greece. Mrs. Kaloidis is also a
member of the Board of Trustees at NYHQ.
ABOUT THE HONORABLE CLAIRE SHULMAN
The Honorable Claire Shulman served as the borough president of
Queens from 1986 to 2002. She is currently the president and chief
executive officer of the Flushing Willets Point Corona LDC. During her
time in office and in her current position, Mrs. Shulman plays an active
role in the effort to develop Queens. Mrs. Shulman is also a member of
the Board of Trustees at NYHQ.
