New York Hospital Queens Awarded Accreditation from the Joint Commission for
             Demonstrating Commitment to Higher Level of Patient Care

Flushing, N.Y., June 14 , 2013 — New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) announced today that it has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals. The accreditation award recognizes NYHQ’s dedication to continuous compliance with the Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.

"In earning Joint Commission accreditation, NYHQ has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of patient care," says Mark Pelletier, R.N., M.S., executive director, Hospital Programs, Accreditation and Certification Services, The Joint Commission. “Accreditation is a voluntary process and we commend NYHQ for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves.”

NYHQ underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey in March. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated the hospital for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. NYHQ performed exceedingly well, with the number of impact findings among the lowest across the country.

NYHQ has also previously received Special Quality Awards in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (2012) and the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Program (2010).
