Community Art Garden “Growing” at New York Hospital Queens
Canvases Available for Pick-up for Phase Two of Project

Flushing, N.Y., August 22, 2013 – Much like flowers planted in the ground, the New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ) Community Art Garden has taken root with paintings from local artists including the hospital’s employees, patients, visitors as well as community members. At a celebratory reception held at NYHQ, these local artists were invited to view the first installation of this growing garden on the walls of the hospital.

“The artwork we received is very impressive. The response to the art garden has been extremely positive from patients, visitors and employees. I look forward to phase two of this project and seeing the garden grow,” said Kerry McHale, coordinator, Division of Public Affairs & Marketing, NYHQ, who spearheaded this project.

During the reception, blank canvases were distributed for phase two of the Community Art Garden. Artists are being asked to demonstrate one or more of several themes in their work; healing, compassion, health, wellness, Queens, diversity and/or community. All paintings must be acrylic on canvas.

NYHQ will provide blank 12” x 12” canvases to artists. Canvases can be picked up and dropped off at the Department of Volunteer Services in the hospital: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

All artists must sign a release form available at www.nyhq.org/call-for-artists.

Paintings and signed release forms must be submitted by September 30, 2013 to the Department of Volunteer Services.

For additional information or questions about the community art garden, contact the Division of Public Affairs and Marketing at 718-670-1065.
